Big announcement... I am writing a book!

To say this has been an unusual spring would be an understatement. Every single family, individual and business has been affected by the pandemic. Although our small portion of the world has also been shaken up in 2020, our purpose has not wavered: at Flourish we believe that everyone needs more beauty and connection with nature in our lives, and flowers are the perfect way to share that beauty.

Growing flowers is not just what I do for my job, it is an attempt at making the world a more beautiful place. I have always shared my experience and knowledge about flower farming though workshops, private classes, social media and this blog, and I am so excited about an opportunity to share the magic of flowers with even more people.

Back in March, I signed a contract to write a book with Mango Publishing and I’m so excited to announce that my book Growing Flowers: Everything You Need to Know About Planting, Tending, Harvesting and Arranging Beautiful Blooms will be released in Spring 2021! Mango Publishing was named the 2019 Fastest Growing Independent Publisher by Publisher’s Weekly and I am so excited to be working with them.

Initially the timing of writing and photographing an entire book over the course of one year felt overwhelming and impossible. But upon further reflection, I realized that pouring myself into a project of this scale was exactly what I needed to focus on this year. We all need beauty now more than ever and it is so inspiring to see a renewed interest in gardening!

Growing Flowers is my labor of love. I take you step-by-step through all the processes that I use at Flourish for growing beautiful flowers, plus designing several arrangements in our signature style. Most of us have less than ideal growing conditions – I farm on a steep hillside in the Appalachian Mountains with crazy winds, heat and humidity where we also experience freezing winters – and I share how to make the best with the soil and climate that you have. Farming and gardening are not “one size fits all” and in the book I address all the factors that are universal, but also provide a road map to customize your garden to suit your unique conditions. Plus, the book is filled with gorgeous and helpful photos!
