About the Farm: Flourish Flower Farm is a boutique flower farm growing specialty cut flowers using sustainable, natural practices in the mountains of Asheville, NC. We are the proud stewards of a 9 acre farm in Asheville, just 15 minutes from downtown. We are dedicated to growing only specialty and heirloom varieties – producing high quality, organic (not certified), fragrant blooms is our priority. By focusing on intensive planting, soil fertility, plant health and succession planting, we grow an impressive amount of flowers on a small amount of cultivated land. We are passionate about flowers and believe they make the world a more beautiful place!

The Position: Internship will run May-August 2022, with the exact dates are TBD. There is some flexibility with the exact start and end dates. Intern can expect to work about 25 hours a week for 3 days per week (Monday, Weds, Thurs and Friday), including the occasional weekend shift. All Flourish team members work an 8 hour day with a half hour unpaid lunch break. We start between 7 and 9AM, with the start time shifting towards 7AM as the heat of the summer sets in. Intern will receive mentorship, on-the-job training, will work alongside the Flourish team and will also be expected to work independently. Each day will start with a clear list of tasks to be completed. Intern can expect to learn the ins and outs of life on a successful flower farm. This is a great opportunity for someone seeking in-depth agricultural experience.
Duties Include:
Harvesting, weeding, deadheading and fertilizing flowers
Field preparation
Seed starting
Transplanting
Processing flowers to fill wholesale orders
Installing and maintaining drip irrigation
Maintaining clean, organized work spaces
Many other farm-related tasks
Qualifications:
Prior experience with farming or gardening preferred
Ability to lift and carry 50lbs and to stand, crouch and kneel for extended periods of time
Ability to work efficiently, while maintaining a high standard of excellence
A desire to work on a small, hard-working team with a dedication to maintaining professionalism at all times
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including the heat of the summer
Willingness to adapt and learn
Ability to follow instructions and work independently, and also a willingness to ask for clarification when needed; open to receiving feedback
Passion for providing our community with beautiful flowers
Positive, fun attitude!
Benefits: Intern will receive a monthly stipend of $350 per week, plus mentoring and on-the-job training. Intern will also be given fresh flowers on a regular basis, and occasionally given extra plants or bulbs, all for personal use and enjoyment only. Note: housing is not provided and the intern must have their own reliable transportation to/from the farm in Asheville.
